scaling & polishing
problem: my teeth are stained and I have tartar deposits on my teeth
problem: my oral hygiene is good but my mouth could feel fresher
We recommend regular visits to either our dental hygienist or the dentist to have your teeth cleaned. This cleaning will remove stains and deposits, which build up on your teeth. Patients with sensitive teeth can have their teeth cleaned with a special local anaesthetic that wears off in 20 minutes.
Professional dental cleaning disrupts the deposits of bacterial biofilm (used to be called dental plaque) that accumulate on the surfaces of the teeth, particularly around the necks of the teeth and on the exposed portions of the roots of the teeth under the gums. This biofilm is the major cause of gum disease (periodontitis and gingivitis), bad breath, and tooth decay. It is difficult to remove completely with regular brushing, which is why we advocate regular scaling and polishing, at least twice a year.
