Five ways to treat your teeth this Christmas

Christmas is a time of indulgence – from chocolate and wine to cake, sweets and fizzy drinks. And although it’s a thoroughly enjoyable time of year, try and spare a thought for your teeth.

While it might be gratifying, eating and drinking the wrong types of food and drink can make the festive period a difficult time for your teeth. And if you don’t take care of them, you might end up with a few unwanted cavities as well as a few unwanted extra pounds.

Our team here at Brunswick Square Dental have put together the top five ways you can look after this Christmas.

  1. Indulge in some cheese

There’s never been a better argument for investing in a good cheeseboard this Christmas than this. Eating cheese helps to restore the natural acid balance in your mouth which in turn reduces the chance of developing tooth decay. However, like all treats we recommend you eat it in moderation.

  1. Don’t forgo your oral hygiene routine

Thanks to opening stockings with the kids, or getting up to prepare the turkey, your morning routine might fly out the window faster than you can say mince pie. But as brushing your teeth only takes two minutes, there really is no excuse not to do it. What’s more, if you’re known to fall asleep on the sofa with your hand in a tin of Quality Street, make sure someone reminds you to brush your teeth before you head to bed.

  1. Try and have everything in moderation

As with everything, looking after your oral health involves having everything in moderation. Furthermore, it’s not necessarily how much sugary food and drink you have, but how often you have it.

  1. Go for a scale and polish

To keep your teeth looking sparkly clean all party season, why not have a good old scale and polish? This will help remove stains and deposits that build up on your teeth and ensure there are no bacteria lurking that could cause an issue over the festive period.

  1. Treat yourself to a whitening treatment

If you’ve over indulged at Christmas and need something to freshen your smile, why not think about a professional tooth whitening treatment ready for the new year celebrations? Not only will you feel more confident, you’ll be photo ready too!
